In recent years, Europe has seen a series of crises: COVID-19, climate change, geopolitical conflict, and the rising cost of living. Is Europe – and even the world – moving from one crisis to another?

When do crises stop being crises and become the norm? What are the fundamental shifts that are happening in the economy and society and what do they mean for the insurance and pensions sectors? What are the new risks, what are the hidden risks and, equally important, what are the new horizons?

The EIOPA Conference 2023 looks beyond the current state of flux to consider supervision in a world with daily new dynamics, a world of horizontal regulation, and one in which new media creates movements that are not always in economic models.

The conference attracts policy makers, supervisors, as well as insurance and pension industry representatives from across Europe and the world. The conference is highly regarded by this audience for its discussion on topical issues and networking opportunities, and attracts journalists from national and international specialist media outlets.

On the agenda

Keynote speeches by:

  • Sabine Mauderer, Vice-Chair, Network for Greening the Financial System and Member of the Executive Board, Deutsche Bundesbank
  • Petra Hielkema, Chair, European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority

Panel discussions on:

  • Supervision in the age of horizontal regulation: The interconnectedness of our world means that legislation is becoming more horizontal in nature. What does this mean for supervision? How do we adapt our approaches and what are our expectations to the insurance and occupational pensions sector?
  • Digital deep dive: Exploring DORA: The digital revolution seems to bring as many challenges as opportunities. The Digital Operational Resilience Act aims to protect the financial sector from digital threats. What does DORA mean for insurers and pension fund managers? What are the challenges and opportunities for the sector and for supervisors?
  • Mind the gap: Protection gaps exist across the insurance and pensions spectrum. Where are we making progress? Where should we put our focus? What do we need to do to close gaps?

The event will close with a networking reception.
